Doug and the Slugs Keep the Party Alive at Century Casino Edmonton

Saturday night at Century Casino Edmonton wasn't just another concert—it was a celebration of a Canadian music legacy that refuses to fade away. Doug and the Slugs rolled into town and delivered a set packed with nostalgia, energy, and heartfelt tributes to the man who started it all, the late Doug Bennett.

One Nite Stan

Opening the evening was Edmonton's own One Nite Stan, who warmed up the crowd with a high-octane set of classic rock favourites and crowd-pleasing singalongs. Their infectious energy set the stage perfectly for a night dedicated to timeless Canadian rock.

When Doug and the Slugs hit the stage, it was clear this wasn't a tribute act living in the past. The band has evolved while staying true to the spirit that made them a household name. Frontman Ted Okos carried the torch with charisma and respect, leading the crowd through beloved hits including Too Bad, Making It Work, and Day by Day. His silly banter stood out for me, I think the Swedish bikini team Karokee image is going to stick with me for a while!

The current lineup—Ted Okos, Simon Kendall, John Burton, Steve Bosley, and Brian Newcombe—showed exactly why Doug and the Slugs continue to connect with audiences decades after their chart success. Tight musicianship, infectious grooves, and plenty of humour kept the crowd dancing from start to finish.

Throughout the night, heartfelt moments honoured founder Doug Bennett, whose songwriting and larger-than-life personality helped define Canadian pop-rock throughout the 1980s. Stories from the stage reminded fans that while Bennett may be gone, his music and spirit remain very much alive.

The Century Casino crowd responded with enthusiasm, singing every word and turning the venue into one giant celebration of Canadian music history. For longtime fans, it was a trip down memory lane. For newer listeners, it was a reminder that great songs never go out of style.

Doug and the Slugs proved once again that the party Doug Bennett started decades ago is still going strong—and judging by Saturday night's reaction, it's not ending anytime soon.
